Statiegeld op plastic flesjes, petflessen of bierflessen is welbekend in Nederland. Je betaalt een klein beetje extra bij je aankoop en krijgt dit netjes weer terug als je je lege flessen weer inlevert. 

In dit artikel vertellen we je meer over hoe deze constructie tot stand gekomen is, hoe het zit met statiegeld blikjes, flessen en waar we in de toekomst nog meer statiegeld op kunnen verwachten.

Wat is statiegeld?

Statiegeld is een bedrag dat bovenop het aankoopbedrag op een product gerekend wordt. Bij het inleveren van het lege product, bijvoorbeeld een flesje of blikje, krijg je dit bedrag weer terug. Hiervoor maak je gebruik van een flessenautomaat die in nagenoeg iedere supermarkt te vinden is.

Oorspronkelijk is het statiegeld bedacht om de kosten voor het verpakkingsmateriaal van de leveranciers zo laag mogelijk te houden. Consumenten brengen niet uit zichzelf de gebruikte goederen terug, maar door er een kleine heffing op te plaatsen kunnen zo de kosten laag gehouden worden. Met materiaal kan zo hergebruikt worden.

Door het heffen van statiegeld op flesjes en blikjes wordt er aanzienlijk minder weggegooid en kunnen leveranciers het hergebruiken. Je kunt je wel voorstellen dat dit aanzienlijk duurzamer is dan het alternatief om alles opnieuw te produceren.

Op flesjes zit in Nederland al tijden statiegeld, maar vanaf 31 december 2022 komt dit ook op blikjes.

Hoeveel statiegeld moet ik betalen?

Afhankelijk van het product dat je koopt, verschilt het bedrag dat je hiervoor extra moet betalen. In Nederland betalen we € 0,10 voor flesjes en € 0,20 voor beugelflessen. Voor een leeg krat betaal je € 1,50 en voor een half krat € 0,75. 

Daarnaast is er nog een regeling voor de minimale hoogte voor het statiegeld. Voor kunststof flessen tot 1 liter is dit € 0,15. Kunststof flessen met een hogere inhoud staan op € 0,25.

Effect statiegeld op milieu

Door de invoering van het statiegeld wordt er aanzienlijk meer gerecycled. Voor grote plasticflessen wordt 95% namelijk weer ingezameld en hergebruikt. Jaarlijks gaan er honderden miljoenen plastic flessen terug richting de winkel door deze enkele regeling.

Hetzelfde geldt voor bierflesjes. Op een aantal gesneuvelde flesjes na komt ook praktisch alles weer terug richting de supermarkt. Een bierfles met statiegeld is zelfs acht keer minder belastend voor het milieu dan een wegwerpflesje.

Doordat de bierflesjes massaal teruggebracht worden kan één flesje ongeveer 40 keer bijgevuld worden. Hiermee gaat het zo’n 8 jaar mee. Dat is natuurlijk veel beter voor het milieu dan iedere keer een nieuwe fles maken.
